LAST PRODUCTION

Olde Worlde is under threat.

Villains and assassins stalk the shadows,

plotting destruction and disaster in the land.

Only the agents of Hero Central stand between them and victory.

And the finest of them all is agent ‘Prince’ Charming,

the spell cracker, the hero’s hero, the man with the golden kiss.

But age is catching up with Charming.  The cracks are beginning to show.

And now he is facing his final assignment,

the most dangerous he has ever undertaken.

Against an enemy he created himself..

Whoops, They did it again.
Just when you were beginning to recover from those rampaging Viqueens, the Whoops ensemble return, this time with a clever blend of hardboiled detective story and timeless fairy tale: Kiss Your Love Goodbye.

Can Agent Charming ‘the man with the golden kiss’ save Olde Worlde? Can he defeat Baron Fauntless? Will he win the love of the winsome Wallflower? Of course he can. Can the audience resist all this? Of course not.

Ingenious sets that made the most of every inch of stage, projection, pyrotechnics, eye-catching costumes, a live band…there was nothing amateur about these dramatics and even from ten rows back you could see that this was local theatre at its best: inclusive, energetic and most important of all, entertaining.

Particular highlights for this reviewer? The Bar of Broken Dreams scene, full of clever wordplay and quick-fire humour from author Torquil McNeilage. The overall quality of the singing, most especially the husband and wife pairing of Wallflower and Agent Charming who were, well, charming. A rousing finale which had the Beehive’s tiered seating shaking, so vigorous was the foot-tapping, singing and clapping.

Hopefully East Devon’s finest will be back again before too long and if they are…so will I.

Review by Peter Hanington

The company that brought you Viqueens is here again. But not worrying about period footware quite so much

There are no

fairytale endings
